Principal's News

Welcome back to Term 4, traditionally a very busy yet rewarding time of the school year. We have many of our usual events planned for the term so please check your term calendars or the school website for important dates.

This week has seen the beginning of construction works for our new classroom under the Federal Government’s BER program. Scaffolds have been erected and the site locked to ensure the safety of our students during any works that are being carried out. At this stage we are well on track for the classroom to be erected and ready for use at the beginning of Term 1, 2010.

By today all students across the school will have begun their pottery lessons this term with Mrs Gotlieb. Our long term goal is to create an installation that will beautify the new vegie garden.

Speaking of the vegie garden, our crop has exploded in recent weeks and we now have plenty of salad for the lunch wraps that are being organised each fortnight by Kerry Graham. We will also need to organise some cooking lessons to utilise our abundant crop.

Also in regard to pottery, I have had a request from Mrs Gotlieb for the children to bring in some materials for their work this term. Could you please send in any old towels or sheets that you may have so that these can be used to wrap the children's work each week. As you can imagine these will not be returned and will be kept for future pottery activities.

This week I have also received application forms from the Selective Schools Unit for parents who wish to seek placement in a Selective High School in 2011. If your child is currently in Year 5 and you would like to apply for entry into one of these High Schools please contact me at school for an application form. Attendance at one of these schools would require travelling to either Wollongong or Campbelltown.

This week we will also be beginning lessons with all students K-6, from the Child Protection curriculum. Subjects covered this term will relate to relationship building with a focus on bullying and trust. These lessons are a mandatory part of the curriculum but if you would prefer your child not participate in them please contact the school by tomorrow so that alternate arrangements can be made during this time. Please also feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any further questions.

Finally this week I'd like to mention the wonderful time that the 3-6 students had at their camp last week at Killalea State Park. Camp is often a special time where children can get to know each other a bit better and forge new friendships and this camp was no exception. We were fortunate to share the camp with a great group of children from Kangaloon Public School and all the children were a credit to their respective schools. Over the next week we will be publishing some reports of our time at the camp on the school's website, so please keep an eye out to find out what a wonderful time the children had. I think you can see by the photos in today's newsletter what an industrious and fun time was had by all.

I'd also like to send out a huge thank you to our two parent helpers who attended the camp at Killalea. Your contribution and efforts in making sure the children were well fed and looked after really made a huge difference with such a busy and hectic schedule each day. Thank you Kerry and Rowena.

Yours in learning,
